Collective intelligence and co-creation guidelines for NBS (Nature-based Solutions)

The co-creation between different conventional and unconventional actors, such as designers, artists and architects, becomes a convenient strategy to generate NBS designs, not only from a technical perspective, but also from a social, environmental and multidisciplinary perspective.

Between 1980 and 2010, Europe lost 300 billion euros due to storms, landslides, floods and mudslides and had 75,000 deaths as a result of heat waves. Climate change will have far-reaching repercussions and consequences for urban Europe. These events can mean disaster for cities and their inhabitants.

To help address this challenge, the European project ‘Adaptive Cities through Integrated Nature-Based Solutions’ (ACTonNBS), promoted and funded by the EIT Climate-KIC, has developed this guide on collective intelligence and co-creation in the application of Solutions Based on Nature (NBS) in cities. The handbook was developed in order to explore new channels for creating citizen awareness and promoting the participation of multiple agents. This guide extracts the learnings of the first 2 years of the project, so a final delivery is expected at the end of 2021.
